UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 20 mm, 7.00 g, 12 h), 'Ulów Group', O3/R2. Imitating Claudius II, 268-270, or Aurelian, 270-275. OИO∞И NOИBNTOIΓT Laureate, draped and cuirassed imperial bust to left. Rev. ∾IΩƧOΩ∾IΩOMΩI Fortuna standing front, head to left, holding rudder in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. Aurum Barbarborum I, -, cf. 805 (same obverse die, but differing reverse). Bursche, Ulów, fig. 9 (same dies). With original suspension loop attached. Holed and with minor scrapes, otherwise, fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

This is certainly not the most beautiful coin in the collection, but it reveals two interesting aspects: first, it records valuable die links to lot 1895 (reverse) above and 1897-1898 (obverse) below, and secondly, it provides evidence for the concurrent use of both an attached suspension loop as well as a perforation.
