VISIGOTHS, Gaul. Temp. Amalaric to Atanagild, 511-567. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.36 g, 6 h), in the name of Justin I, 518-527. Narbona (?), circa 520-530s. D N IVSTIN-VS P P AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justin I facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG N / CONOB Victory standing front, head to left, holding long cross in her right hand; in field to right, star. MEC -, cf. 190 (in the name of Justinian I and with star in left field). Reinhart pl. 7, 12. Very rare. A beautiful example of this interesting issue. Nearly extremely fine.

The N at the end of the reverse legend perhaps stands for Narbona, the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom up until the reign of Theudis (531-548). Since the coin names Justin I (518-527), it is likely that it was struck under Amalaric (511-531), who was assassinated by his own men near Narbona after a defeat against the Frankish King Childebert I.
