XXIII was the highest number securely known to have been given to a legion within Marc Antony's order of battle. This legion appears to have been disbanded after Actium, since Augustus reorganized and consolidated the Roman army, with Legions XXII Deiotariana and XXII Primigenia afterwards holding the highest numbered legion, until XXX Ulpia Victrix was formed under Trajan in AD 105.
