Very Fine; slight corrosion, cleaning marks to obv., die shift on rev., deep old collection tone. Rare; although not signed, this obverse die is attributed to the master artist Exakestidas.

From the collection of a Scientist;
Privately purchased from Fritz Rudolf Künker GmbH & Co. KG;
Ex Fritz Rudolf Künker GmbH & Co. KG, Auction 89, 8 March 2004, lot 1066.

Exakestidas, the pre-eminent die engraver of Kamarina, signed two obverse dies on the exergual line. Westermark & Jenkins noted that his depiction of the quadriga shows the influence of the great Syracusan artists Euainetos and Kimon, and although unsigned (as many of the finest dies are), the dies used to strike the present piece are attributed to Exakestidas and thus the coin is an example of the very best numismatic art of the period.
