(x) Sicily, Syracuse (430-420 BC), AR Tetradrachm, 17.33g, 10h, head of Arethusa right, her hair confined in Sakkos adorned with maender pattern and laurel wreath, wearing whorl earring and wire, EVPAKOEION before, dolphins in fields, rev. Nike driving Quadriga right with Nike flying above to crown horses' heads (BMC 112; Boehringer 642 (dies V326/R442); SNG [ANS] 207 same dies; SNG [Boston] 389, same dies), a trace of tone to periphery, otherwise extremely fine, the striking neatly centred on a fuller flan, rendering this a most excellent example of one of the most idolised numismatic designs in the Classical World.
