Byzantine lead seal of John vestitites
of the imperial velon and the chartoulary
(ca 11th cent.)
Obv.: Mother of God in the center, standing on a rectangular base, facial, nimbate, holding on her chest child Jesus Christ, wearing chiton and maphorion, among the archangels Michael (right) and Gabriel (left), sigla of their names, all within dotted border.
Rev.: Inscription in 6 lines, partly existing, but completely reconstructed, [+ΘΚΕ]R,Θ,/[Τ]ΟΝΜΑΓΙC/[ΤΡΟΝ]ΙΩ,RΕCΤΗ/ΤΙΤΗΤΟΥRΗ/[Λ]ΟΥSΤΟΥΧΑΡ/[ΤΟΥΛ]ΑΡΙΟΥ = Θεοτόκε, βοήθει τὸν μάγιστρον Ἰωάννην βεστίτη τοῦ βήλου καὶ τοῦ χαρτουλαρίου (Mother of God, help John vestitites of the imperial velon and the chartoulary), all within dotted border.
