George I. 1714-1727. Copper farthing. 4.55 gm. 20 mm. 'Dump' issue. 1717. His laureate bust right / Britannia seated left (Anne farthing reverse die). S. 3661. Peck 783. Fine; some small flan faults on reverse. Rare.
Decent examples of this particular type show up less frequently than Anne farthings. "Dump" basically means "dumpy," a comment on the small and thick flans Newton first used at the mint to try to satisfy the demand for copper coins. (AD)
