Hostilian as Caesar. Tetradrachm; Hostilian as Caesar; 250-251 AD, Antiochia ad Orontem, Seleucis and Pieria, Tetradrachm, 14.09g. Contemporary counterfeit of McAlee-1160d (V. Rare) and Prieur-650 (5 spec.). Obv: G OYA? OCTI?IAN ME KVINTOC KECAP Bare-headed, draped bust r., seen from front, S below bust (officina 6). Rx: ?HMAPX E?OYCIAC around, S C in exergue, Eagle with spread wings standing l. on palm branch, holding wreath in beak. Apparently a fourrée from official dies, silver plated over a copper core, most unusual for tetradrachms struck at Antioch. From the same obverse die as the illustrated solid-silver specimens, McAlee-1160d and (with Eagle right on reverse) Prieur-651. No such plated tetradrachms in official style are mentioned by McAlee in his discussion of counterfeits and imitations of Antioch coins, pp. 25-7.. F
