Germany, Brandenburg Prussia, Wilhelm I (1861-88), Victory in the Franco-Prussian War, 1870-71, Generals' large gold medal of 120 ducats weight, by E. Weigand (obverse) and W. Kullrich after Theodor Grosse (reverse); obv., head of Wilhelm I right, surrounded by the names and ranks of 22 Generals, of Bismarck as Chancellor and of Count von Roon as Minister for War and the Navy, rev., Germania enthroned, being crowned with a wreath by Victory and Peace, in ex., Iron Cross dividing dates 1870 – 1871, 84.7mm, 418g (Hüsken 7.277.1; Sommer K 70), a few light handling marks, good extremely fine, a spectacular and extremely rare medal struck in high relief. A total of 25 examples were struck in gold for presentation to the 24 individuals named- 22 Generals, Bismarck and von Roon - while the remaining specimen was reserved for the Emperor himself.
