MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (20mm, 8.60 gm, 6h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. Posthumous issue of Amphipolis, under Cassander, ca. 307-300 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in five tight corkscrew curls and loose over left shoulder, wearing necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short divergent crest ends, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛΕΞΑΝΔPOY, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; trident head downward below right hand, retrograde KA monogram in left field below wing. Price 180. Nicely centered, with magnificent red-orange toning.
