João V gold 4000 Reis 1725-M UNC Details (Reverse Cleaned) NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM115, LMB-241, Bentes-119.02 (R2). A truly singular grade for this mint and date despite the usually negative connotations of the "cleaned" designation, and one which should instantly give the seasoned collector pause. Of the relatively small certified population for the type, the highest straight-graded pieces (a small group of 3) rank at AU55--an example of which brought $13,200 in our April 2019 Central States sale. As such the type is virtually unknown at the Mint State level, a quality certainly admitted by the captivating state of the obverse, which even lacks the heavy adjustments so common for the issue.
