Hamburg. Free City gold "Bugenhagen - 400th Birthday" Medal of 100 Marks 1885-Dated MS63 NGC, Gaed-2292. 42mm. 36.60gm. By J. Lorenz. Struck in commemoration of the 400th birthday of Johannes Bugenhagen, who introduced the Protestant Reformation to Pomerania and Denmark in the 16th century, establishing Lutheran churches in both Scandinavia and Northern Germany. Mirrored in the open expanses, Bugenhagen's bust and the ornate reverse scene of an atrium containing a statue of the historical figure contrasting well by consequence of their satin finish.
