Henry VIII (1509-1547) gold Angel ND (1509-1526) MS64 NGC, Tower mint, Castle mm, S-2265, N-1760, cf. Schneider-559 (there with Castle with H mm). (castle) hЄnRIC (large crook-shaped abbreviation): V • I • I • J (large crook-shaped abbreviation): DI': GRΛ' + RЄX: ΛnGL' + Z + F' (saltire and double saltire stops), Archangel Michael nimbate, spearing the dragon (Satan) with cross-topped staff / (castle) PЄR: CRVCЄ' x TVΛ' x SΛLVΛ: nOS: XPЄ': RЄD' (saltire and double saltire stops), cross and shield over ship, h-(rose) to either side. Unusually fine quality for the issue to say the least, and presently amongst the finest certified by NGC, this spectacular near-gem Angel comes imbued with a nearly matte butter-gold patina and only the mildest doubling present towards the beginning of the obverse legend.
