Great Britain
George II gold 5 Guineas 1748 AU Details (Repaired) PCGS, KM586.2, S-3666, Schneider-565. Uniformly attractive and entirely collectible, this scarcely circulated currency 5 Guineas clearly attests to the rising production standards for such large-size gold pieces by the late 1740s. Sharply expressed in every facet of the design, the coin at hand appears quite nearly uncirculated, evidence of rub seemingly sparse from even the highest points of the devices despite some minor handling in the fields. The only evidence of the noted repair work we have been able to find is near the top of the reverse shield, and for reference we note that an UNC Details (Obverse Repaired) specimen of this same date brought $26,400 in our January NYINC sale.
