George V gold "Coronation" Medal 1911 MS65 NGC, Eimer-1952a, BHM-4022. 51mm. 83.45gm. By B. Mackennal. Matte finish. A beloved coronation type that proves to be of significant rarity in this large-size format, as compared to the more often-seen 30mm striking, with apparently only 4 other examples having come to auction in the last decade and a half, according to our research. Presently the single finest certified at NGC, this offering must appear very near to how it did after its production, only some minor grazes on the reverse breaking the otherwise blemish-free matte surfaces. The first such specimen we have handled, we note that a SP63 piece hammered for $11,000 in a recent August sale. Accompanied by its original case of issue.
