ATTICA. Athens. 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (30mm, 16.87 gm, 11h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. New Style coinage, Antiochus, Nicogoras, and Nicon, magistrates, 131/0 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a vine scroll, Pegasus above undecorated upturned cheek flap, protomes of five horses on visor / A-ΘE / ANTI-OXOΣ / NIKOΓ / NIKΩ/N HK (HK ligate), owl standing facing on overturned amphora decorated with B (month); elephant standing right in right field, ΣΩ (engraver) below, all within olive wreath. cf. HGC 4, 1602 (different third magistrate). Thompson 397c.
An interesting variety with a monogram HK following the last magistrate, which could be a patronymic for the magistrate's father.
