Louis XVI bronze Essai 6 Deniers 1790 MS63 NGC, KM-Unl., Maz-183 (R2), Guilloteau-143. Liberté Constitution Patrie (incuse) on edge. An apparently quite rare Essai type from the Constitutional Monarchy, produced on an extra thick flan which Mazard states was part of a program for private industry to manufacture a new series of test blanks. Entirely missing from the Carl F. Chirico, Jr. Collection of World Patterns offered in 2008, we have been unable to locate a specimen coming to auction in at least the last two decades.
