Louis Philippe I gold "Exposition Prize" Medal 1840 MS62 NGC, 37mm. 26.2gm. By Depaulis. Visually engaging, this prize medal from the 1840 Exposition was awarded to Henri de Rudder for his historical paintings. The obverse features the high-relief laureate bust of Louis Philippe, surrounded by Prooflike fields that project a voluminous amount of mint bloom. The reverse bears an inscription of the event and the engraved name and artistic subject of the winner. While a scattering of handling marks are observed throughout the fields, the visual impressiveness of this medal far exceeds its numerical grade.
