Louis XIV 5 Sols (1/12 Ecu) 1670-A VF20 NGC, Paris mint, KM199.1 (under France), Br-502 (R4), Robins-29001, Jones-2550. A rare issue sought by collectors as the first French issue for their New World territories. The 1670 French Colonial coinage was authorized by an edict of King Louis XIV for use in New France, Acadia, the French settlements in Newfoundland and the French West Indies. Dressed in marble gray tone with a lightening atop Louis' bust and generally good eye appeal for this important type. Sold with collector ticket and auction tag.
