Great Britain
Edward VI (1547-1553) Crown 1552 XF Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC, Tower mint, Tun mm, S-2478, N-1933, Dav-8245. 30.75gm. The first English Crown type in a series that would span hundreds of years and dozens of varieties. Though often ignored in favor of the earlier 1551 issue, the first year in this short series, the present date seems to in fact be much scarcer, as demonstrated by the mere seven problem-free examples certified by NGC versus the 30 certified examples dated 1551. Despite a thin scratch in the obverse right field that accounts for the assigned grade, the present example brings much to the table with a superb strike, deep, even tone, and far less wear than is often encountered.
