Johann I Zapolya (1526-1540) gold Goldgulden 1540-HFG UNC Details (Bent) NGC, Nagyszeben mint, Husz-871, Lengyel-157/4/1540. 3.53gm. S • LADISLAVS | • REX • 1540, crowned, armored figure of Johann standing facing, halberd in right hand, globus cruciger in left; H/F - (crowned crossed swords)/G across fields / IOHANNES ★ D ★ G | R ★ HVNGARIE ★, Madonna enthroned with Christ child, shield below. A somewhat scarcer monarch from this series who disputed the title for King of Hungary against Archduke Ferdinand I. Quite popular amongst collectors for its ties to Transylvania, and quite original despite the noted bend.
