Mozambique
Portuguese Colony Counterstamped 8 Reales ND (1765) VF25 NGC, KM27.2, cf. Gomes-29.05 (host date not listed). Displaying MR countermark on a Charles III 8 Reales 1762 LM-JM from Peru (cf. KM-A64.2). Countermarked in accordance with the decree of August 20th, 1765 under Governor Baltazar Manoel Pereira do Lago. Only the third example of this quite rare counterstamped crown coinage we have handled, and the first of this host date we have seen, preserving nice original color and even wear over the devices. We note that the Standard Catalog of World Coins placed this issue under the decree of May 28, 1767.
