Cal-7. A very rare set of patterns, entirely unrecorded by either the Standard Catalog of World Coins or Cayon. During the Spanish Civil War of 1936 to 1939, the Basque provinces of Guipuzcoa, Alava, and Viscaya in north and central Spain broke awake and declared their autonomy as Euzkadi or the Viscayan Republic on October 8th, 1936. Only two coins were produced for circulation before the dissolution of the Republic on June 18th, 1937, struck at Brussels in nickel. These copper patterns, unlike the nickel circulation pieces, rarely appear on the market, even less often outside of Spain.
