Republic Pair of Uncertified Obverse & Reverse 5 Venezolanos Die Trials 1875,
1) Obverse - UNC, cf. KM-TS3 (for obverse trial strike in gilt copper), Stohr-Unl., OAV-Unl. 33mm. 11.28gm.
2) Reverse - UNC, cf. KM-TS4 (for reverse trial strike in gilt copper), Stohr-Unl., OAV-Unl. 33mm. 11.02gm.
Paris mint. A highly peculiar pair of trials or samples for the dies of the 1875 5 Venezolanos which appears to be unpublished in all of the references we have consulted, in addition to being absent from the Fonrobert, Guttag, and Ulex collections. While gilt-copper uniface trial strikes inscribed with the word ESSAI are known for the 5, 10, and 20 Venezolanos, we can find no record of such die trials as these. Very nearly pristine, and of the highest interest to the collector of Venezuelan coins and patterns.
