A Collection of French Historical Medals, the Property of a Gentleman Voyage of La Coquille, 1822, a silver medal by B. Andrieu, bust of Louis XVIII right, rev. legend and date in nine lines, 51mm. Extremely fine and toned, rare £600-£800 --- The French naval vessel La Coquille completed a circumnavigation of the globe from 1822-5 under the command of Louis Duperrey, with Jules Dumont d'Urville as second-in-command. Later renamed L'Astrolabe, the ship completed two further voyages of exploration under the command of Dumont d'Urville, the second of which included a visit to Antarctica in 1837-8
