ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Æthelred II. 978-1016. AR Penny (19mm, 1.32 g, 3h). Long Cross type (BMC iva, Hild. D). Stamford mint; Godleof, moneyer. Struck circa 997-1003. Draped bust left; pellet behind neck / + GΘ DLEΘ F M'Θ STΛN, voided long cross, with pellet at center and triple-crescent ends. SCBI 27 (Lincolnshire), 1159 (same obv. die); North 774; SCBC 1151. Rich toning with hints of iridescence, weak strike on obverse, a few peck marks. VF. Crude obverse style.
