Fr. 1357; Carl Friedrich, 1806-1815. Bare head of Napoleons ally l. by J. Laroque. Gold, 6.96g. UNC with cleaning. Prince Carl was one of Napoleons few real German allies and suffered accordingly, his enlarged Duchy being assigned to Hesse-Darmstadt by the Congress of Vienna. He is also remembered as the innocent patron of famed counterfeiter Karl Wilhelm Becker. Kuenker 213/4982.
