Bonifatius (Comes Africae, AD 422-431) - AE10 (Carthage ca. 423-425, 0.77 g) - DOMINIS NOSTRIS Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / Wreath, cross on globe within (RIC X 3814) - a bold VF for this extremely rare coin, one of the best conditions we have seen! Bonifatius, who died AD 432, was a Roman general and governor of the Diocese of Africa and he battled the Visigoths in Gaul and the Vandals in North Africa. Further Bonifacius engaged in civil wars on the behalf of Galla Placidia. He stood up against the generals Flavius Felix (in 427-429) and Flavius Aëtius (in 432). Although he won the battle of Rimini aganst Aëtius, Bonifacius died due to a severe and fatal wound in AD 431.
