ROYAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE PRESERVATION OF LIFE FROM SHIPWRECK, (George IV 1824, in silver (35mm), by W.Wyon, Mint, pierced hole at top for suspension ring, edge inscribed, 'George Grey.'. Display mounted on cardboard sheet with printed details of award, medal with a few small edge nicks or bumps and hairlines, otherwise very fine.

Silver medal awarded on 25 January 1826 to George Grey, farm servant.

Citation: 11 October 1824: Mr Grey plunged into the sea and saved four seamen and the Master from the vessel Economy which had been driven ashore at Heselden, near Hartlepool, Co. Durham. He made five journeys to the wreck, boarding her and saving one man on each occasion.
