Sprague & Co London on back (L.552, P.S241, Hargreaves p.111, Clifford E224b). A complete note, two 20 mm blue cancellation stamps on the front, uneven edges, otherwise fine and extremely rare.

Robb notes two types of back. Banknotes from The Bank of Otago Limited were issued over a 10 year period from 1863 until 1873. The bank was not strong enough to maintain an independent existence and its relatively short life ended when the National Bank of New Zealand took over its 13 branches in 1874. It can probably be assumed that this note was obtained around the time of the takeover.
