Recommendation: For consistently good work and devotion to duty since February 26th, 1917, to present date and especially in the operations on the Ypres front at Sanctuary Wood on 31/7/17 when he handled his Battery with dash and gallantry taking it forward into a most advanced position in the course of an action under heavy fire when he was severely wounded by Machine Gun fire. He has always set a splendid example to his men and is a most capable and reliable Officer; a leader of men and much trusted and respected by them. The morale of his Battery is directly attributable to his fine conduct under fire.
