Malcolm Hutcheson Davis, born 28Dec1904 in Foster, Vic; Enl.04Nov1939 at Townsville, Qld; appointed Sergeant and later Lieutenant of 2/ 31 Bn; a gallant and outstanding leader, he was KIA 10Jul1941, along with 13 of his men killed or wounded, leading his platoon of 43 men in an attack against the Senegalese enemy in Badarane, Beyrouth, in Syria, just before the Armistice; mentioned on pp507-8 in the Official War History 'Greece, Crete and Syria'; Buried in the War Cemetery in Beirut, Lebanon; Commemorated on the Roll of Honour at Townsville, Qld and also at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, ACT.
