This coin was struck under William IV, during who's reign the United States of the Ionian Islands was formed on 14 November 1815. It was made up of seven principal islands: Corfu, Cephalinia, Zante, Santa Maura, Ithica, Cerigo and Paxo, and was a protectorate of the United Kingdom, succeeding the Septinsular Republic (1800-1807) that had existed under Russian and Ottoman sovereignty.
