Ares slew Halirrhotius, son of Poseidon, after he raped his daughter, Alcippe, and attempted to abduct her. Ares was brought before the court on a hill near the Acropolis in Athens, where he was acquitted, and which now bares his name (Areopagus). This is considered to be the first trial in Athenian history.
