From the remaining stock of Mrs Irene [Neddy] Allen (1928-2020), Medals by Subject, Art: Royal Academy of Arts, George V, silver prize medal, awarded 1912, by Thomas Brock and (rev.) Frank Bowcher, uniformed bust of the King l., rev. the Torso Belvedere looks out to the Acropolis, edge engraved, "WALTER LLEWELLYN CLARK, FOR A PERSPECTIVE DRAWING IN OUTLINE", 55mm. Walter Llewellyn Clark was killed in a flying accident on 23 May 1917, aged 27, and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. Born in Guildford, he was educated at Winchester before joining the Royal Academy Schools. He joined the Artists' Rifles at the outbreak of war, was gazetted to the Middlesex Regiment in December, 1914 and subsequently was transferred to the R.F.C.. He received his flying certificate taken on 29 October 1915, in a Maurice Farman Biplane, at the Military School, Shoreham and obtained his pilot's certificate in February 1916. He was promoted to Captain in November 1916. Both he and his observer were killed in a collision at 6000 ft.
