Ravenscroft Elsey Smith (1859-1930), son of the architect and academic Thomas Roger Smith (1830–1903), became, in 1899, professor of architecture at King's College, London.
The Royal Institute of British Architects acquired the original plaster of the Donaldson portrait in 2018.
