Stubbs, school's arms, rev. engraved details within wreath, "for excelling in the examinations on Anatomy & Physiology conducted by Mr. Turner", 55mm, when awarded the medal was frosted and glazed, the frosting remains on the reverse, very fine and a rare award; Art, the conjoined busts of Mercury and Minerva, by W. Thomas Turner (1793–1873), surgeon, known for his involvement in developing medical education outside of London. The Manchester Royal School of Medicine & Surgery was founded in 1825. J. H. E. Stubbs followed a military career with the 91st Regiment, being promoted to the Cape Mounted Riflemen in 1841.
