Davis & Waters, Montague Guest and Withers list a number of tickets for the New Theatre in two sizes, but this variety seem to have escaped their attention. 1809 was the year when the lavish New Theatre opened, having been re-built after a devastating fire. Management put the ticket prices up and riots ensued. The price for Boxes increased from 6 shillings to 7 shillings. For the Pit and the 3rd Tier. The Gallery prices remained the same but the rake was so steep the audience could only see the legs of the performers!
