The image seems to be loosely after an engraved portrait, c. 1600. Tassie had planned a series of medals of the Scottish monarchs to be made, like this, in opaque white glass, but it was never completed. Bronze casts were also made and whilst records show medals of Robert the Bruce, James I, James IV, James V and Mary, Queen of Scots, the cataloguers cannot find an example of the Robert II medal being offered for sale in either glass or bronze.
