A Collection of Irish Coins, Medals and Tokens, Ireland, Daniel O'Connell, death, memorial medal, 1847, bust left, rev. funerary monument (BHM 2284), fine
Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847) fought fiercely on behalf of Ireland's Catholic population during multiple stints as a Member of Parliament for various Irish constituencies and was key to the passage of the Roman Catholic Relief Act of 1829. His loftiest aim was the repeal of the 1800 Acts of Union which bound Ireland to Great Britain, and his advocacy can be considered to have laid the ground for the Home Rule movement.
Formed 80 – 100 years ago, containing interesting pieces that haven't been on the market for years.
(15-20 GBP)
