India Reserve Bank of India, Calcutta 1000 Rupees ND (1937) Pick 21b Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 4.8.1B PMG Extremely Fine 40. Unusually high grade is seen on this large format denomination. At the time of its release, this note was exchangeable for about $333 USD, which accounts for its rarity today, as so few notes were saved. Only brief circulation and spindle holes are seen. Curiously, PMG mentions "stamp cancelled", which is most likely not the case. Many of the 100 and 1000 Rupees have bank stamps, but it is not conclusive evidence that the note was retired from circulation. Nevertheless, this Calcutta banknote is quite rare in this elusive grade and worthy of consideration. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/india-reserve-bank-of-india-calcutta-1000-rupees-nd-1937-pick-21b-jhunjhunwalla-razack-481b-pmg-extremely-fin/a/4026-28227.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4026 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
