Japan Greater Japan Imperial National Bank, Tokyo 5 Yen ND (1878) Pick 21 PMG Very Fine 25. Beginning in 1877, the National Bank began issuing unconvertible banknotes in denominations of 1 and 5 Yen. This higher denomination note is extremely rare in any and all grades, irrespective of city of issue. Toned paper and mount remnants are mentioned for accuracy on this otherwise handsome example.
