Japan Bank of Japan 200 Yen ND (1927) Pick 37Bs Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. The Japanese economy was in decline in the 1920s due to the devastating Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and the Financial Crisis of 1927. Cash supplies were dwindling and emergency measures taken to alleviate the shortage of banknotes. Two denominations, the 50 and 200 Yen, were hastily printed in 1927 on substandard paper. Due to the low quality of these emergency issues, the 50 Yen was never issued. The 200 Yen was recalled after only two days in circulation. This Specimen represents the ill-fated 200 Yen of 1927. Red overprints and hole punched cancellations are seen. Of the highest degree of rarity, this offering is a famed relic from Japan's economic woes leading up to World War II. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/japan-bank-of-japan-200-yen-nd-1927-pick-37bs-specimen-pmg-choice-uncirculated-64/a/4026-28247.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4026 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
