Hupeh. Republic Li Ching-lin Fantasy Dollar Year 14 (1925)-Dated MS63+ NGC KM-X870, Kann-B59, WS-1349-40. Highly popular and challenging as a type within this series, with an overall level of technical preservation that blows much of the competition out of the water--of its relatively small certified population, only a single piece ranks finer as an MS64. Featuring the portrait of Li Ching-lin, governor of Hopei (Hupeh), the design exhibits an ideal precision that reaches its peak on the reverse, the portrait containing a typical degree of flatness atop the nose. Most recently an AU58-graded piece hammered for $8750 in October, suggesting a fervent level of bidding will accompany such a choice specimen as it crosses the auction block.
