Republic Yuan Shih-kai Dollar Year 9 (1920) MS66 PCGS, Tientsin mint, KM-Y329.6, L&M-77, Kann-666, WS-0180-1. Coarse hair variety. A truly stunning grade for this highly popular "fat man" dollar, not least considering the general scarcity of Year 9 issues compared to the profusion issued in Year 3. From a technical perspective, everything from the finely stippled, softly die polished texture of the fields down to the individual locks of Yuan Shih-kai's coarsely rendered hair is virtually immaculate, leaving utterly little wanting for a specimen that very clearly earns its supreme gem grade. To date, not discerning by variety, nearly 20,000 examples of this type have been certified, of which just 55 have been awarded MS66 status and just 8 rank finer, suggesting that this is not a level of quality to go overlooked.
