SKYTHIA. Olbia. Mid 1st century BC. AE (Bronze, 15 mm, 2.82 g, 12 h). Laureate (?) male head to right, with the features of Asander. Rev. Palm frond. Anokhin 518 (as 'Nike'). HGC 3.2, 1922 (as 'Nike'). Very rare. Very fine.


The head on the obverse of this issue bears striking resemblance to that of Asander, the King of Bosporos in 43-16 BC, indicating some degree of supremacy of the Bosporans over Olbia.
