ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Rashid, AH 170-193 / AD 786-809. Dirham (Silver, 31 mm, 2.13 g, 5 h), Eastern Sistan Series, citing Imad, Sistan, circa AH 170/80s = AD 790s. Crowned and draped Sasanian-style bust to right; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, Khosrau in blundered Pahlawi; in outer margin, 'Imad' and 'Salih' in Kufic, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah') and 'Rabbi' ('my Lord') in Kufic. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; to left, blundered date; to right, blundered mint. Album 89c. Rare and nicely toned. Edge chipped, otherwise, very fine.
