INDIA, Pre-Mauyran (Ganges Valley). Malla Janapada. 5th-4th centuries BC. 1/2 Karshapana (Silver, 14 mm, 2.00 g). Two punches: geometric and floral symbol. Rev. Blank with traces of undertype visible. Rajgor Series 72. Very rare. Traces of overstriking on the reverse and with minor flan faults, otherwise, very fine.


From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

Malla issued coins only briefly before it was absorbed by the expanding Magadha empire. It is famous for being the chosen death place of Gautama Buddha.
