Egypt, Alexandria. Hadrian. A.D. 117-138. AE drachm (32.07 mm, 19.66 g, 12 h). Alexandria mint, Dated RY 19 = A.D. 134/5. [AVT KAIC TPAIAN AΔΡΙΑΝΟC CEB], laureate head of Hadrian left / Tyche reclining left, holding rudder and resting elbow on urn; LЄNN // ЄA - KΔ . RPC III, 6047; Dattari-Savio Suppl. Pl. 12, 132; Emmett 1063. VG / Near VF, red patina with green deposits. Very Rare..

From the D. Thomas Collection.

Very Rare. Only 10 specimens known to RPC, three at CoinArchives. The date on this piece is unusual. It may have to do with the superstition about the number 9 (theta - Θ) in "Regnal year 19" and seems to be rendered as though it were expressed in roman numerals with Greek characters: K, with A before (like IX = 9) The delta at the end is misleading, of course Hadrian had no regnal year 24.
