Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Ptolemy III Euergetes Æ Trichalkon. Alexandria, 246-222 BC. Head of the deified Alexander to right, wearing elephant skin headdress / Eagle with closed wings standing to left on thunderbolt; BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY around, filleted cornucopiae to left, monogram between legs. Cf. CPE B400; cf. Svoronos 969. 3.09g, 16mm, 12h.
Near Extremely Fine.
The XP monogram which should be seen between the eagle's legs is closer in appearance to the 'Ⳟ' which appears on another Alexandrian series for Ptolemy III Euergetes which also features cornucopiae (cf. CPE B380). However, in those examples the cornucopiae is placed over the eagle's shoulder when its wings are closed, not in the left field.
